The Real Costs of Cyber Security

We were honored to have Craig Peterson join us.  He is America's Cybersecurity Expert Protecting businesses from cyber threats since the dawn of the internet 50+ years in technology and cybersecurity.

A huge thank you to Craig Peterson for joining us at our member meeting and giving us such an informative (and eye-opening!) presentation on the real cost of cybersecurity.

Craig has spent years in the cybersecurity field and has even worked with and trained cybersecurity agents at the FBI. He shared practical advice that all of us — both personally and as business owners — can put into action.

If you missed the meeting, here are a few of the key takeaways:

Start with your passwords
• Change your passwords regularly and avoid using the same password across accounts.
• Consider using a password manager such as 1Password.
• Add the browser extension to make using it easier.
• When possible, use a passkey instead of a traditional password. Passkeys use encrypted technology and are generally more secure.
• Consider using a username that isn't your email address when a service allows it.

️ Turn on 2FA
Two-factor authentication adds another layer of protection to your accounts and is one of the easiest things you can do right now to improve your security.

Keep your software updated
Don't assume everything is automatically up to date. Craig recommended checking your applications manually as well, especially software such as Adobe products.

BACK UP YOUR SYSTEM
Having a backup can make a huge difference if your system is compromised.
Craig discussed solutions such as Veeam and reminded us that USB drives alone aren't always a reliable backup solution.

Think of antivirus as a bouncer, not a guard
Craig explained that today's viruses and malware continue to evolve, especially with advances in technology and AI. Antivirus software is an important layer of protection, but it shouldn't be your only line of defense.

He also shared Forward to Safety, which is currently available for free for Windows users.

Don't forget your phone
Our phones hold an incredible amount of personal information, so keeping them secure matters too. Craig discussed the importance of security updates and being selective about the apps we install.

Be careful about what comes into your inbox
Filtering email and being cautious about unexpected messages, links and attachments can help prevent problems before they start.

And one VERY important reminder from Gina DeNuzzio of First Seacoast Bank:

If you notice ANYTHING unusual on your account, or realize you've clicked something you shouldn't have, CALL YOUR BANK IMMEDIATELY.

Don't wait to see what happens. Being proactive can help protect your account.

Vendor registration is closed!

However, you can still sign up and be placed on the waiting list.

2026 Holiday Craft Fair

To help ensure a safe and secure registration process, all vendor tables must be purchased directly through the Greater Barrington Chamber website.

**Returning Vendors**

If you've participated in our Holiday Craft Fair before, simply log into your account to register. If you're unable to access your account, please use the **"Forgot Password"** option to reset your login credentials.

**First-Time Vendors**

If this is your first time participating, you won't be able to purchase a table immediately. Please email us at office@barringtonchamber.org to introduce yourself and your business. We'll review your application, create your vendor account, and then you'll be able to register online.

**Why the Extra Step?**

Unfortunately, vendor scams have become increasingly common on social media. To protect our vendors, the Greater Barrington Chamber only accepts registrations through our official website. We never sell vendor spaces through Facebook or other third-party platforms. If you have any questions, please contact us directly before making a payment.
